Is it time you considered Pilates?

By Laura Taylor, owner of Personal Pilates, located within Lakelands Health and Performance

“Pilates” or “Contrology’ as its creator, Joseph Pilates called it is a series of exercises that traditionally begins on the Mat, Reformer or both. These are the the foundations of your training, and are suitable for whether you are a beginner, pilates enthusiast, athlete or teacher.

Movement is so important and Joe knew this at such an early age. He was a frail child, suffering from rickets, asthma, and rheumatic fever. His determination to overcome these childhood ailments led him to practice and excel at bodybuilding, gymnastics, diving, and other physical pursuits.

As someone new to the pilates method, you will definitely feel surprised at the subtle intensity of the work. You will feel strong, energised and centred after each class, even when the focus isn’t on fixing your posture, but creating shapes and working those muscles to do so. Joseph Pilates designed the System to work the whole body and you will experience this moving through the studio, working on the equipment designed by Joe himself.

Why the Springs over mat? There is a huge relationship to help clients build their practice. The springs support us and let us go to places that weight can’t do. They inspire alertness and have the same value as your technique with every exercise. This is what makes the Contrology Springs so unique.

At Personal Pilates you will find a warm, caring and safe environment to practice.  During each Open Studio Session there will be 1-3 clients max working independently through their programs alongside each other, under the guidance of myself.

The ability to work independently, is what Joe expected of you when practicing, but secondly it is because research proves that when you take responsibility for your workouts and mentally engage with its content and method, you engage yourself more deeply and knowingly.  Therefore, you are more likely to transfer the gains from your workouts into the rest of your active life.

With commitment, focus and a willingness to learn, the studio is open for you to come and explore movement and be the best you can be, to help keep living a strong and healthy life.

Laura has over a decade’s experience in Pilates and is currently embarking on a 2-year immersion coaching program through renowned Pilates Leader, Wade Edwell.
